Introduction

The Stevenage Locomotive Society was formed in May 1959, by a group of enthusiasts who used to meet by the side of the East Coast Main Line at Six Hills Way bridge, Stevenage. Since then more than 1000 local railway enthusiTasts have enjoyed SLS meetings and visits. As the Society is to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2009 a number of special meetings and events are being planned.

The STEVENAGE LOCOMOTIVE SOCIETY holds meetings on the forth Thursday of every month* plus additional 'Xtra' meetings on most fifth Thursdays (*except December - "2nd Thursday") at the 'Community Arts Centre', Roaring Meg Retail Park, Stevenage, Herts. SG1 1XN, starting at 7.45pm (See our meetings page for full location details and forthcoming meetings).

There is a wide range of interest amongst the membership, including Photography (both digital and traditional forms), Charter Trains (steam, diesel or modern traction), Inter City or Suburban Passenger, Freight Operations, Preservation, Railwayana, Signalling, Timetabling, Video etc. There are also European & International interests.
